Sussex and Surrey

Ian has been a member of the Sussexs and Surrey Association executive for many years holding positions as Secretary and currently Chairman.   Ian left Wealden District Council in 2008  after more than 30 years service in Revenues and Benefits in order to consider other opportunities and is a Freelance Benefits Consultant mainly working with Capita Servives. Ian has been a past lecturer in Benefits subjects on the London Certificate course and is currently an examiner with the Institute.  Ian is also author of publications on benefit fraud and case law.

 Paul is currently Benefit Manager at Worthing B.C.  Paul has nearly 20 years experience in Local Government working in Housing Benefit and is a lecturer on the London Certificate course.  Paul has been a member of the Association executive for 7 years and has been Treasurer for the past 5.  Paul is a contributer to the IRRV benefit caselaw book.

Bill has been a freelance consultant and trainer in revenues and benefits since 2002, prior to which he was head of revenues and benefits at Wealden District Council in East Sussex for nearly 20 years.  He is often away on business around the UK, but always tries to make it home for association meetings and events.  He has recently taken on the role of Secretary of the Association (2009) but has been a member of the Executive for many years. Bill was a member of National Council from 1992 until he stepped down in 2008 in order to have time to develop other opportunities.  He is still the Institute’s Chief Examiner for the Professional Project Assessment route to corporate membership, is a tutor on the London Day Release Course, an author of IRRV publications and he is a member of the Local Taxation and Revenues Faculty Board.

Bill is married to Marion with two grown-up sons and a granddaughter.  He lives near Eastbourne where in addition to family fun, his interests are the countryside, including country pubs if they serve good beer, walking and bellringing.

Julie is the current National President of the Institute and has been a member of the National Council since 2001.  She is a member of the Benefits Faculty Board and sits on various other committees. She is also the Head of Revenues and Benefits at Tandridge District Council in Surrey. Julie has taken up the role of Education Liaison Officer with the Association,  therefore if any students have problems or comments as to the examination or NVQ process that she can help with please do get in touch.

When not at work or involved with IRRV activities Julie is a Deputy Church Warden,  enjoys swimming and badminton and is a member of the Bishop of Chichesters Decision Making review group

Richard is the Head of Revenues at Mole Valley District Council.  He has been a member of the Executive committee for the Association since the Sussex Branch amalgamated with the Surrey members of the London and Met Counties Branch in 2000 and the Branches became Associations.    Richard supports the executive by hosting meetings at Mole Valley and assisting with the planning and programming of events.  Richard is currently studying for CPFA qualification.

Colin is General Manager of East Sussex Credit Unions and has recently passed on the job of secretary of the Association after several years in the post.  Colin has over 30 years experience in Revenues and Benefits working for several Councils and running his own successful training and consultancy firm in the 1990's. Colin is a past President and Treasurer of the Association. He remains an officer of the executive supporting their work to ensure that we can bring quality meetings and events to the membership.  When not working Colin is a Parish Councillor and editor of his local church magazine.

Jeannette has a vast amount of experience as a Senior Benefit Officer and left Local Government for the lucrative "temping market"  several years ago.  She is currently working for Mole Valley DC,  the flexibility of temping work allows jeannette to spend a lot of quality time with her grandchildren. Jeannette has been on the Executive for 3 years and supports the Associaiton by contributing to programming and attending the meetings.
